Welcome Students and Parents:

In Social Studies, it was announced that Mr. Stanton will be strictly adhering to the classroom policy and expectations for late work (whether classroom assignments or homework).  As a result, late work will not be accepted after two days.

On May 17th, we started our last chapter of the year on The Pacific Region.  Students began their studies of this chapter by addressing a "Mapping Australia" activity.  It is worth 20 points and due tomorrow.  The following link is for "Mapping Australia" in which students were instructed to use the Nystrom classroom atlas (pages 96-97) for the poliitcal features (since these are not in the WR textbook).  For the physical features, students were instructed that they could use the Nystrom atlas or WR p. 584 or p. 636.

The Southern and Eastern Asia Chapter Quiz was Wednesday, May 16th and was worth 50 points.  In lieu of a study guide for this chapter quiz (and the Pacific Chapter Quiz at the end of May), students received Unit Preview handouts before the study of World Regions Chapter 24 (and Chapter 29).  The Unit Preview (see link below) will serve the role of a study guide but these will not be checked for completion.  In addition, students received a South and East Asia Matrix Summarizer on May 7th (see link below) to assist them when they go to prepare and review for the Chapter 24 quiz.

For further practice related to the vocabulary and concepts associated with the landforms, climate, and natural resources of Southern and Eastern Asia, Mr. Stanton encouraged students to check World Regions pp. 502-503.  These pages include a Chapter Summary and a Chapter Review that students could work on in lieu of a study guide created and distributed by their teacher.  The link below can assist students and/or parents if the textbook is not available or left at school.

Use the link below for the weekend homework (May 11-13th) that was distributed to students prior to the dismissal of each class period last Friday.  Unfortunately, there were was roughly 25% of the students who failed to turn in a Monsoons Summarizer - even for a late grade.  In addition, students were working on a classroom assignment last Friday - "Climate in Southern and Eastern Asia" - that some students were expected to finish period 9 or during class on Monday , May 14th.  (Students who fail to meet the expectations for completing this class assignment may earn a zero on it.)

Just a reminder that students need to bring class materials each and every day - BETWEEN NOW AND THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.  Otherwise, students may lose credit for those activities requiring the use of the World Regions textbook, colored pencils, ink pen, highlighter, etc. because they lack the materials necessary to complete the work.  Students need to come to class prepared because Mr. Stanton does not allow locker trips (it only reinforces lack of preparation if locker trips are approved).  In addition, students may need to replenish their own classroom supplies and materials that are required BETWEEN NOW AND THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

Parents:  If you have a sixth grader who is in need of assistance in gathering class materials due to a financial hardship, please contact their grade-level counselor, Mrs. Kristie Socha (ksocha@mbgsd.org).  The PTO's Operation Wildcat has been established to help our students who are in need.  The Operation Wildcat webpage can be utilized by clicking on the link below:
