Welcome !
Please encourage your child to read nightly. Research shows students at this level should be reading 16 books a year to STAY ON grade level. Vary their reading. Include non-fiction, magazines, and yes, internet reading. Newspapers are a great way to keep your child current on local and national events while increasing their interest in things around them and increasing their vocabulary. Magazines should also be included in their reading, especially topics that interest them. If they are interested in the subject, they will read. Try reading a page to them, and having them read a page to you. Both parent and child benefit. Lastly, inquire what they will be reading in the next grade. Get a jump start on the novel or text. Just ask the counselor to point you in the right direction. It's been a pleasure working with your children this year. I always say that I learn as much from them as they do from me. Enjoy the summer and take time to read and get some exercise to stay fit. This year I teach 6th and 8th grade.
I try my best to keep this updated, but homework when given, is written in the agenda books. Contact me if you have any questions. cdellinger@mbgsd.org. 8th grade: We are almost finished with The Boys' War. After we have finished the book, students will have an open-note book review. Skills include comprehension, vocabulary enrichment, cause and effect, and problem solution. 6th We are reading Hatchet. Skill areas include vocabulary with quizzes, comprehension checks, HW (reading certain chapters outside of class) and reading responses. We also are continuing with periodic study island literary element checks. These are graded, as well. Cheryl Dellinger B.S. Elementary Education M.Ed.
