In 2004 Mechanicsburg Middle School students participated in a survey asking them to rate incidents of bullying in their school. Administrators, teachers, parents, and students came together following the release of these results to form a Bullying Prevention Program (BPP) committee. We are a group that is committed to making Mechanicsburg Middle School an emotionally, academically, and physically safe environment for our students.
Select members of the Bullying Prevention Program (BPP) committee were trained in the Olweus model of bullying prevention. We use Olweus methods as well as simple techniques to empower students to stop the bulling cycle. Highlights of our program include a kickoff assembly, Anti-Bullying Pledge Day, and discussion in advisory groups concerning bullying issues.
