Assistant Superintendent for Academics
Julie Huff is the Assistant Superintendent for Academics. Mrs. Huff graduated from Shippensburg University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and assumed her first position at AT&T as a programmer/analyst. When her own children entered school, Julie began to volunteer in their classrooms on a regular basis. During this time she discovered a love for teaching and began to pursue an elementary teaching certificate from Wilson College. Julie completed her student teaching experience at Filbert Street Elementary in the Mechanicsburg School District. Upon receiving her teaching certificate she was hired as a second grade teacher at Filbert Street. She worked for three years as a second grade teacher and then transferred to third grade for four years.
For five years she served as the Language Arts Support Teacher in all of the district's elementary buildings. While in this role, she earned her Master's degree in curriculum and instruction as well as her reading specialist certificate from The Pennsylvania State University. Julie continued her graduate studies at Penn State and received her administrative certificate. After receiving her administrative certificate Julie was named the Supervisor of Elementary Curriculum. She served in this position for three years while continuing her graduate studies in administration at Shippensburg University. Through these studies she earned a Superintendent's Letter of Eligibility and was later named Assistant to the Superintendent. Julie served in this position for two years prior to being named Assistant Superintendent for Academics.
Julie is proud to be a member of the Mechanicsburg Area School District. Julie has lived in Mechanicsburg with her family for over 25 years, and believes the school system exemplifies the tradition, pride and excellence of the community. She enjoys working closing with the staff, administration, parents, and community as we collaboratively support our students to achieve educational excellence and embrace global citizenship.
The Assistant Superintendent for Academics is evaluated annually on the following performance criteria:
- The Assistant Superintendent will assist the Superintendent in the daily operation of the School District.
- The Assistant Superintendent will assist the Superintendent in leading the District to achieve the highest possible academic performance.
- The Assistant Superintendent will assist the Superintendent with the implementation of Board Policies to ensure program goals and objectives are met.
The Assistant Superintendent for Academics' performance has been rated satisfactory for the 2017-2018 school year.
