Environmental Classroom

The Environmental Classroom is for use by the Mechanicsburg Area School District, Mechanicsburg Area Parks & Recreation programs and activities and Mechanicsburg Communities.  The building contains two flexible classroom spaces with a folding partition wall between them allowing both spaces to be expanded into one large educational space.  This allows for different activities and grouping occurring at the facility depending on need.  Each classroom space has access to a shared kitchen space that can also serve as a prep space for experiments, meetings or parties.  Each classroom also has doors onto a porch which allows the classrooms to act as a home base.  The building housed the administrative office for the Mechanicsburg Area Parks & Recreation Department.  Building capacity is 60 students and up to four staff member in the office suite.

Curriculum includes soil science, tree identification, composting, and geology.  Hiking and biking trails, organic farming, orienteering and disc golf will enhance the recreational programs at the center.  Community partnerships with county green organizations, team building and challenge course as well as service projects for Eagle Scouts, Boy and Girl Scouts and cooperative partnerships with Messiah College will also be available.

The building is also available to Mechanicsburg Area Communities for meetings, staff retreats and parties.  Please see our party brochure for more information.
