Communication During Inclement Weather
Inclement Weather Resource
We want to ensure you are fully informed about how we will communicate any weather-related schedule changes.
When making decisions about inclement weather, our top priority is the safety of our students—whether they’re driving, riding, walking, or waiting for a bus—as well as our bus drivers, staff, and families. We carefully consider factors such as the timing and details of the forecast.
We also understand that unexpected schedule changes can create challenges for families. To balance these concerns, we strive to avoid making decisions hastily while still giving you as much notice as possible. If the forecast doesn’t allow us to decide the evening prior, our goal is to finalize decisions with enough time to begin communicating with families and staff by approximately 6 a.m. on the day of the weather event.
Here’s How We Will Keep You Informed
Automated Notifications (parents/guardians and staff) - Phone, email, and/or text messages will be sent using the contact information provided in Sapphire. Please ensure your information is up to date so you receive all emergency notifications. Staff will receive messages based on the information provided to Human Resources.
Website Updates - Barring any major outage, updates will be posted on the district website.
Social Media - Information will be shared via our official accounts: @MASDwildcats on Facebook and Instagram.
News Outlets - Local stations will be notified if time permits—typically only in cases of unscheduled early dismissals.
Weather-Related Schedule Options
Unless otherwise stated in our communication, we will typically operate on one of the following schedules:
Two-Hour Delay - We will continue to monitor conditions during delays and update families and staff promptly if the schedule shifts to a closure or Remote Learning Day.
Closure (Traditional Snow Day) - The first three weather-related closures of this school year—including the closure on December 2, 2025—will be traditional snow days with no make-up required. The fourth closure will be made up on May 1, 2026, and closure days 5+ will transition to Remote Learning Days (see below).
Remote Learning Day - Closure days 5+ will transition to a Remote Learning Day unless otherwise specified. Families can expect communication from their child’s school and/or teacher regarding learning expectations for the day.
Thank you for your understanding and partnership as we work to ensure timely and effective communication throughout the winter season.
