🧦 HEY DR. BITZ, YOU KNOCKED OUR SOCKS OFF // Dr. Bitz is usually the one handing out the socks. But this time … the script was flipped.

During a recent visit from educators and students from St. Teilo’s Church in Wales High School in Cardiff, Wales, UK 🇬🇧, our friends from across the Atlantic surprised Dr. Bitz with a pair of custom socks from the UK. They said the district’s hospitality and the opportunity to see the incredible educational programming happening across our schools "knocked their socks off."

Their visit, the second in a year, was a wonderful exchange of ideas, perspectives, challenges, and successes. Special thanks to our friends at the Capital Area Intermediate Unit for coordinating both of these opportunities.

🌟 LET IT GLOW // Our friends at the Mechanicsburg Area Recreation once again hosted a memorable evening for their annual dance, and this year, the glow was turned all the way up.

Young Wildcats, dressed to impress, invited a special adult to dance the night away under glowing lights, colorful décor, and plenty of bright smiles.

Special thanks to everyone who helped to make this a special night for our young Wildcats.

🧦 HEY SARAH, YOU KNOCKED OUR SOCKS OFF // Sarah Williams, Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School, is making a meaningful difference for our Guest Teachers.

Sarah has gone above and beyond to help new Guest Teachers feel welcomed, prepared, and connected as they begin working in our schools. When a recent weather delay created a scheduling mix-up, she graciously adjusted her plans to still provide orientation and support.

Her flexibility, kindness, and commitment have been instrumental in helping our Guest Teachers start strong and in ensuring our classrooms continue to run smoothly. Thank you, Sarah, for the care and dedication you bring to our Wildcat community. 💙

🧦 HEY MARLA AND BETSY, YOU KNOCKED OUR SOCKS OFF // A powerful example of care and quick thinking unfolded recently at Mechanicsburg Middle School.

When a student began choking in the cafeteria, Marla Signor calmly stepped in and administered the Heimlich maneuver, helping ensure the student’s safety. Afterward, she quietly returned to her duties with humility, a reflection of the care and dedication she brings to her work each day.

In that moment, Betsy Luckenbaugh helped create and maintain a calm, safe space around Marla and the student, allowing the situation to be handled quickly and effectively.

Their composure, compassion, and teamwork reflect the very best of our Wildcat community. Thank you both for going above and beyond for our students. 💙

🍎🥣 BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS // It’s National School Breakfast Week, and we’re celebrating the power of starting the day with a healthy meal. From fueling learning to helping students stay focused and ready to tackle the day, school breakfast plays an important role in supporting our Wildcats.

So far this school year (Aug. 1 – March 2), our team has served 158,336 breakfasts to students across MASD. WOW! That’s a lot of early-morning fuel helping Wildcats learn, grow, and thrive.

👏 A big thank you to our incredible food service staff who make it all possible each day.

📚 READING WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT // As part of Read Across America Week, Dr. Bitz stopped by Karol Maloney's first-grade classroom at Upper Allen Elementary School to share a story with her students. He read Be You by Peter H. Reynolds, a book that encourages young readers to be confident, creative, and true to themselves.

A great reminder that books can inspire our Wildcats to be exactly who they are meant to be. 💙

💙 JOY IN MOTION // Thanks to the generosity of our friends at the Wildcat Foundation, Terrin Sheeder’s MDS classroom at Upper Allen Elementary School has a brand-new swing — and with it, brand-new opportunities for joy.

For some of our Wildcats, especially those who use wheelchairs or have mobility challenges, winter weather means outdoor recess isn’t always quite as easily accessible. But thanks to this swing, movement, sensory support, and pure fun are brought right into their learning space.

📸 Mrs. Sheeder recently captured a truly heartwarming moment as several students took their very first ride. The smiles. The laughter. The pure excitement. It was the kind of joy that fills a room and stays with you long after the moment passes. We are so grateful for the Foundation’s support in helping create inclusive experiences where every Wildcat can move, play, and feel the thrill of the swing. 💙

This isn't the last you'll hear of this story. Stay tuned for a future follow up. 😊

💙 SCHOOL SOCIAL WORK WEEK // This week, we recognize the incredible impact of our school social workers and the vital role they play in supporting students and families. They help navigate challenges, connect families with resources, and partner with staff to ensure students have what they need to be successful in school. Their work often happens quietly and behind the scenes — but it strengthens our entire Wildcat community.

Today we celebrate you. Every day we appreciate you. 💙

🧦 HEY TARA, YOU KNOCKED OUR SOCKS OFF // MASH Math Teacher Tara Wildmann brings positive energy to our halls in the best way. Every Friday, she leads her signature High Five Friday, greeting students between classes with high fives, smiles, and words of encouragement that help them head into the weekend feeling seen and supported.

It may seem like a small gesture, but those quick moments of connection leave a lasting impact. Tara’s commitment to building belonging and brightening someone’s day is just one of the many ways she makes MASH stronger.

Thank you, Tara, for sending our Wildcats into every weekend on a high note. 💙

📚🎩 OH, THE PLACES WE’LL READ // If you spotted a red and white striped hat at Kindergarten Academy drop-off this morning, you weren’t imagining things … 👀 It's Read Across America Week!

Reading Interventionist Lisa Hoover kicked off the day in full Dr. Seuss style, welcoming students with smiles, stories, and a reminder that reading opens the door to adventure. From silly rhymes to beloved classics, this week is all about celebrating the joy of books and the power of literacy.

When our teachers show up with this much spirit before the first bell even rings, you know it’s going to be a good week. 💙

Let the reading fun begin.

🍲 FROM KITCHEN TO COMMUNITY // A big round of applause for our Mechanicsburg Middle School Wildcat Cafe students, who once again brought their talents to Wildcat Foundation Night last week with a delicious soup bar experience.

From planning and preparation to serving guests, these students showcased impressive culinary skills, teamwork, and Wildcat pride. Their hard work helped make the evening warm, welcoming, and memorable for everyone involved. 💙

🦬 BRINGING HISTORY TO LIFE // As part of their unit on Native American studies, our KinderCats are learning about the important role bison played in daily life. To help them truly understand just how massive these animals are, Scott Herbein created a life-sized bison silhouette right inside his classroom. Let’s just say… there were some wide eyes when our little learners realized how big “BIG” really is.

Hands-on learning makes history unforgettable.

🔎 EXPLORING FUTURE PATHWAYS // Recently, some of our future-focused Wildcats at Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School stepped beyond the classroom to explore careers in both the military and legal fields.

Students connected with members of the PA Army National Guard to learn about field artillery roles, engineering support careers, and both college and non-college pathways. Another group attended a Law & Corrections career exploration event, speaking with state representatives, state troopers, attorneys, and law professors about careers in law and law enforcement.

Real conversations. Real professionals. Real-world possibilities. Real connections.

Special thanks to Jeff Luttermoser and team for coordinating these amazing opportunities! (📸 And for the photos.)

🧦 HEY CHRIS, YOU KNOCKED OUR SOCKS OFF // Bringing people together to learn and grow is no small task — and Chris Haldeman, Executive Assistant/Superintendent's Office, made it happen. Recently, she coordinated a hands-on training at the Pennsylvania School Safety Institute (PennSSI), creating an opportunity for administrators and administrative assistants from across the district to connect, collaborate, and strengthen their skills through meaningful, interactive learning.

Chris is always looking for ways to build connection and support professional growth, and based on the overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants, this experience did exactly that. Thank you, Chris, for helping our Wildcats learn, grow, and work stronger together.
