Elmwood Academy's 5th grade engineers took on the CAIU STEM Design Challenge, spending months researching, designing, and building eco-friendly factory prototypes with sustainability at the center of their thinking. Then, they brought those ideas to life in front of judges and peers from across the region. And our Wildcats didn’t just show up… they stood out.
Out of 18 teams, Elmwood earned TWO spots on the podium and captured the crowd:
🥈 Team Sea Savers — 2nd Place + Fan Favorite (Lynn, Aiden, Finn, and Kaycee)
🥉 Team Duckie Bags — 3rd Place (Everly, Tate, Bryce, and Avery)
From thoughtful design to confident presentations, these students proved that innovation has no age limit. The future is in good hands. Congratulations, Wildcats!
📸 Special shoutout to Elmwood Librarian Nate Chesky for advising our Wildcats and for the photos.

Thanks to their quick thinking and expertise, staff maintained access to phones and computers, allowing us to stay connected with families and keep everything running without interruption.
When it mattered most, Paul and Rick made sure we didn’t miss a beat. That’s definitely sock-worthy. 🧦🧦

That’s one sock for each of her two outstanding moments of care and support. 😊

Facing off against 34 of the top spellers from 10 counties across Central Pennsylvania, Mechanicsburg Middle School's Sai showed what Wildcats are all about ... grit, determination, and resilience under pressure. The competition included an intense 16 rounds and 3 hours of formal competitive spelling.
What an incredible accomplishment. We are proud of you, Sai.

👏 We are grateful to our community partners, including 1st United Methodist Church, Mechanicsburg Brethren in Christ Church, St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, and St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, for their continued generosity and support. We also greatly appreciate our Broad Street Girls on the Run team and the many volunteers from Broad Street, across MASD, our administrative offices, our social workers, and the greater community, along with our very own Wildcat.
💛 Your time, energy, and care are what make this evening so special.

🧊❄️ PLUNGING FOR A CAUSE // Students from Rebecca Kuhn’s class and members of the Mechanicsburg Middle School Student Advisory Committee recently braved the cold temps and icy waters for something bigger than themselves at the Capital Area Cool Schools Polar Plunge.
With every chilly step into the water at Gifford Pinchot State Park, they were supporting an incredible mission, raising funds for Special Olympics. Our Wildcats raised $1,045!
🥶 We’re so proud of these Wildcats for showing courage, compassion, and a willingness to make a difference, even when it meant a very “brrrr” moment.

From tiny details to big imaginations, this is what learning looks like when creativity takes center stage. March is Youth Art Month, and we’re proud to celebrate the incredible talent and artistic expression of our Wildcats.

🧦 HEY DR. BITZ, YOU KNOCKED OUR SOCKS OFF // Dr. Bitz is usually the one handing out the socks. But this time … the script was flipped.
During a recent visit from educators and students from St. Teilo’s Church in Wales High School in Cardiff, Wales, UK 🇬🇧, our friends from across the Atlantic surprised Dr. Bitz with a pair of custom socks from the UK. They said the district’s hospitality and the opportunity to see the incredible educational programming happening across our schools "knocked their socks off."
Their visit, the second in a year, was a wonderful exchange of ideas, perspectives, challenges, and successes. Special thanks to our friends at the Capital Area Intermediate Unit for coordinating both of these opportunities.

Young Wildcats, dressed to impress, invited a special adult to dance the night away under glowing lights, colorful décor, and plenty of bright smiles.

Sarah has gone above and beyond to help new Guest Teachers feel welcomed, prepared, and connected as they begin working in our schools. When a recent weather delay created a scheduling mix-up, she graciously adjusted her plans to still provide orientation and support.
Her flexibility, kindness, and commitment have been instrumental in helping our Guest Teachers start strong and in ensuring our classrooms continue to run smoothly. Thank you, Sarah, for the care and dedication you bring to our Wildcat community. 💙

When a student began choking in the cafeteria, Marla Signor calmly stepped in and administered the Heimlich maneuver, helping ensure the student’s safety. Afterward, she quietly returned to her duties with humility, a reflection of the care and dedication she brings to her work each day.
In that moment, Betsy Luckenbaugh helped create and maintain a calm, safe space around Marla and the student, allowing the situation to be handled quickly and effectively.
Their composure, compassion, and teamwork reflect the very best of our Wildcat community. Thank you both for going above and beyond for our students. 💙
