🎭 HISTORY COMES TO LIFE // Second graders at Northside Elementary School wrapped up their CKLA unit on the American Civil War in a creative and memorable way.

After learning about the lives and contributions of people such as Harriet Tubman, Abraham Lincoln, Clara Barton, and Ulysses S. Grant, students researched and wrote biographies on a figure of their choice. They also created puppets to represent their historical figure and hosted a living history experience for first and third grade visitors.

Guests asked questions, and the puppets answered using everything the students had learned. It was an engaging way to practice speaking and listening while showing off their knowledge.

So many confident Wildcats bringing history to life, one puppet at a time.

📸 Special thanks to K-3 Literacy Coach Rebecca Morris for capturing these photos of learning in action.

🐾 WILDCATS IN WONDERLAND // Our 3rd graders at Upper Allen Elementary School recently took their learning on the road with a trip to the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts.

From diving into a hands-on STEM lab tied to their CKLA unit on animal classification, complete with creating animals in their habitats, to exploring Survival of the Slowest and learning how some of nature’s “slowpokes” thrive through amazing adaptations, curiosity was everywhere.

Our Wildcats also enjoyed all the Whitaker experiences and topped it off with an IMAX adventure about space travel and the ISS. It was a perfect connection to their current learning! 🚀 It was a day full of discovery and connection!

📸 Special thanks to Abigail Thompson for the photos of our Wildcats in action.

💬 CONNECTION IN MOTION // Whether it’s in an office, a classroom, or even rolling down the hallway, building relationships with students is always a priority.

Recently, we spotted MASH Assistant Principal Sunada Roberts rolling down the hallway with her laptop on a cart, a perfect reminder that connection doesn’t have to be complicated. Instead, it’s about being present, approachable, and willing to meet students where they are. Every interaction is a chance to listen, support, and make a student feel seen.

🌍 EXPLORING THE WORLD — NO PASSPORT REQUIRED // Our Mechanicsburg Middle School 6th graders recently took their first steps into new languages at the annual World Languages Showcase.

Guided by incredible MASH students and supported by our middle school team, students rotated through interactive games that brought each language to life. From becoming word detectives and spotting familiar-looking cognates (those “wait…that looks familiar!” words) to sharing lots of laughs along the way, the room was filled with energy, curiosity, and connection.

The event provided an opportunity for our Wildcats to see how language opens doors, builds understanding, and brings people together across cultures. 💬

🧦 HEY DEB, YOU KNOCKED OUR SOCKS OFF // Deb Haines, School Nurse at MASH, recently went above and beyond in a moment that meant the world to a student in need.

When one of our Wildcats discovered a large hole in their pants during the school day, Deb stepped in right away. She quickly pinned the pants so the student could comfortably get through the day and even offered to sew them properly afterward.

It’s a small act of kindness with a big impact. In the words of the student’s parent, it “reminded me how lucky we are to have such compassionate staff in our buildings.” Thank you, Deb, for caring for our Wildcats in every way that matters. ❤️

🥔 AG DAY FUN // Our 4th graders at Elmwood Academy recently rolled up their sleeves for Ag Day, the grand finale of their science agriculture unit. From churning butter to making ice cream, applesauce, lemonade, and even French fries, students got a hands-on look at how some of our favorite foods go from raw ingredients to ready-to-eat treats.

As if the day wasn't great to begin with, it was made even more special, when they welcomed back former teacher and Ag Day creator, Kim Bowers, to share in the fun. Learning never tasted so good. 🍎🍦

📸 Special shoutout to Heather Strock for passing along many of these photos for us to share with you.

🎉 DISTRICT PROGRAMS RECOGNIZED AS EXEMPLAR // We are proud to share that two Mechanicsburg Area School District programs were recently recognized for excellence at Shippensburg University’s Superintendent Study Council Exemplary Programs event.

🎵🎓 Our annual Choral Sharing Day and the MASH Career Development Program and Graduation Project were both honored for the meaningful impact they have on our students. Choral Sharing Day brings students from across the district together to celebrate music and the sounds of the holiday season, while the Career Development Program and Graduation Project highlights future-focused learning by helping students explore their interests, build real-world skills, and prepare for life beyond high school.

Thank you to everyone who supports and makes these experiences possible. Your time, care, and commitment continue to create opportunities that truly make a difference for our Wildcats.

🎨 LITTLE ARTIST, BIG TALENT // Sometimes the smallest hands create the biggest masterpieces.

KinderCat Vedanth was proud to show off his incredible drawing of a car (a BMW, to be specific 😊) and truck, and we couldn’t help but be impressed by the detail, creativity, and care he put into every line. 🚗🚛

We love seeing our young artists shine and share their talents with such confidence. Keep creating, young Wildcat! We can’t wait to see what you draw next.

💜 PURPLE UP FOR OUR WILDCATS // Today, many of our Wildcats across the district wore purple in honor of the Month of the Military Child and Purple Up! Day, a simple gesture with a powerful message of support.

Behind every military-connected student is a story of strength, resilience, and service. From moves and new beginnings to time spent apart from loved ones, these students show courage in ways that often go unseen. Today, we wear purple to recognize and thank them for all they carry, every single day. 💜

🧦 HEY JENNIFER, YOU KNOCKED OUR SOCKS OFF // This is smart savings in action! At MASD, we consistently review vendor options and pricing to ensure we’re being responsible stewards of our resources. And recently, Jennifer Schweighart, Administrative Assistant to the CFO, took that commitment even further.

Through thoughtful comparison, strong communication, and effective advocacy with vendors, she was able to secure improved pricing on paper that goes beyond our standard review process. It’s a great example of how proactive work and attention to detail can uncover additional savings that benefit our entire district.

Thank you, Jennifer, for your diligence and commitment to MASD.

🐾 FIRST DAY FEELS // We all remember what it feels like to start a new job … a few butterflies, a lot of new faces, and figuring out where you fit in. But Evvie, our newest four-legged team member at Broad Street Elementary School, made it look easy today. 💙

She spent her very first morning at Broad Street greeting students during arrival, offering a calm, caring presence and a few extra tail wags to start the day. It's safe to say she’s already making a difference.

We’re so excited for the comfort, connection, and joy Evvie will bring to our Wildcat community. She’s going to be a wonderful addition.

📸 We’re also sharing a few photos of Evvie in action during training with her handlers over the past few weeks.

🌼 SPRING HAS SPRUNG // Daffodils are blooming at our Trails & Trees Environmental Center, a sure sign the seasons are changing (even if the temperatures aren't sure what they want to do from one day to the next). After a long winter, it’s always a welcome sight to see a little color return and our outdoor spaces come back to life.

Here’s to longer days, warmer sunshine, and all the growth that comes with the season ahead. ☀️

🧦 HEY HOLLY, YOU KNOCKED OUR SOCKS OFF // If you need a spreadsheet built or data uploaded, look no further than Holly Hellam, our masterful Reading Specialist at Elmwood Academy.

Holly consistently goes above and beyond, taking on the behind-the-scenes work that keeps our Reading Department running smoothly and making data collection more efficient across MASD. A true team player, Holly is always willing to help others, and her positive attitude and contagious smile make a difference well beyond the walls of Elmwood.

Holly, you are seen and appreciated. Thank you for being a literacy leader in our Mechanicsburg community. That’s definitely sock-worthy.

🧊❄️ IT'S A POLAR POUNCE // When students get to “vote” which teachers take the plunge … things are bound to get very cool, very fast.

Three brave Mechanicsburg Middle School teachers stepped up and faced the Chill Chamber head-on during lunches yesterday, bringing plenty of laughs, a few deep breaths, and at least one very prepared participant sporting goggles, a swim cap, and arm floaties. Safety first, right? 🛟

From countdowns to cautious dips, this was one unforgettable way to make a splash for a great cause. Even better, every drop supports the Special Olympics, making each chilly moment count in a big way.

🥶 Special thanks to teachers Chad Smith, Greg Burrows, and Kristina McDonald for being such great sports and taking the Polar Pounce.
